In the country of discoveries

Last week I have discovered:
- That the childred do not have to go to bed early. In Beirut we arrived at 4 a.m. and there were families sitting near the see and all children playing arround
- That +33 is my favourite temperature
- That traffic works perfectly even if the single rule is "pay attention". In this situation if you want to cross the street just go and the cars will stop. It is so easy. And everywhere it works in the same way - if you want something, just do it, do not ask. In the worst case somebody will honk to you, that's all.
- That all religions can live together without problems
- That there is a country where on the same street walks a woman in hot pants, and next to her another with hijab. The drivers will honk to both of them;)
- That this country is safe and people are not taking advantages of tourists. And most of them speak English!
- That is possible for people to not pay attention to the bad sites but more concentrate on the good sites. So you will hear about wonderfull food, wine, weather, beautiful view of Mediterranean sea, but not about rubbisch on streets.
- That arabic numerals look different when written in arabic.
- That a wedding can be short and alcohol-free, but very beautiful and funny.
- That I like arabic language and lebanese dances.
- That Lebanon has 4 Mio inhabitants, but 20 Mio Lebanese living abroad
- That Lebanon is 220 km long, 40 wide and has area of 10 542 km2
- That Lebanon was dominated by 17 different foreign nations
- That in Lebanon live people of 18 confessions
- That in Lebanon there are sites of 5000 BC!

Welcome to Lebanon!

Other useful tips:
- Restaurants: Barbar ("lebanese fast food")- here you can get salads (tabbouleh is the best), the best main dish is chicken shawarma (meat, bread, frites, salad and 2 sauces, one plate is enough for 2 persons). It is always full there, so you can just wait inside till a table is free. Kabab-ji - is a bit more expensive, has great assortiment of meat dishes. The best drink everywhere is lemonade.
- When you get a taxi say "service". Taxi in Beirut costs normally 10000Liras, when you say "Service" is 2000 Liras pro person, but they can also collect other people on the road.
- "Beach" in Beirut means a swimming pool near the sea. Public sand beach is too dirty. There are some beaches outside of Beirut.
- There is a fix exchange rate: 1 dollar = 1500 liras, you can pay with both and ask for cashback in both too.
- If you want to go for a daily tour, I highly recommend "NAKHAL". We went twice with them, the descriptions of the tours sound very simple (Baalbek-Ksara-Anjar with lunch), but there are a lot of surprises with them (like very good lunch, wine tasting, etc.)
-Before you order something or buy something in a more expensive place (for example international shop or restaurant at the see or in downtown), ask how much will it cost.

And here you will find the pictures.
